Pemashanti Singye

Pemashanti "Pema" Singye carries the weight of her heritage like a finely crafted tapestry—intricate, strong, and full of stories. At 22, she stands as a testament to resilience, shaped by the remote mountain village of Malana, where every life lesson is tied to the land. With her honey-blonde hair—a stark contrast to her people's dark locks—Pema has often felt like an outsider, yet her talents in weaving, carving, and farming mark her as a valuable member of her community. Her heart, however, remains fragile beneath her stoic determination.

Her mother’s untimely death left a void that only her grandmother’s love could fill. Still, Pema longs to be seen for her skills, not her differences. She dreams of carving her own legacy, but fate has other plans. A path beyond the mountains calls to her, one that will test everything she knows—and change her life forever.

Cherished Things

Hometown: Malana, shadowed by the majestic peaks of their mountain home its been inhabited for as many generations as their people can still recall. Exporting only goods and keeping the traditions of their people's craft and lifestyle sacred and pure
First Memory: Sitting on her grandmother's lap in front of the fire as a blizzard raged outside, learning to braid her hair as they waited for her father to finish cooking dinner. The smell of the smoke and the slight chill in the air closest to the window. Her small hands struggled to keep a firm grip on the strands of hair as her grandmother smiled down at her, arms wrapped around her.
Most important childhood event that still affects them: When she received the scar on her knee, the tumble down the mountainside. She had woken up to the night sky alone and in pain. It had been hours since the fall that knocked her out and still they had yet to find her. Hearing her father's voice shouting in the distance so full of worry for her safety and on the verge of breaking, tears streamed down her face as Pema tried to find her voice to call out to them. Every painstaking minute it took for the search party to eventually see the break in the path that had slid out from under her. The moment she was in her father's arms, snotty and still bleeding, he burst into wails. The relief they both felt knowing she was still alive keeps her from putting her father through the pain again.
Education: While separated from the outside world during the cold months, the warm months are spent trading and so as to not be ripped off they make sure to keep up with the languages and how goods are valued although much of their knowledge is instead devoted to practical skills
Religion: The people of the village don't worship one all-powerful deity as other kingdoms do, instead, they seek to live alongside the natural order and the spirits that maintain the balance
Finances: They do not care for the frivolity of common currency and choose to support themselves instead through trade, to others this makes them seem poor

Thunderbird

The physical manifestation of the sky in all its fury and grace with talons like swords, their iridescent feathers shifting from various shades of gold to the foreboding grey of an oncoming storm when enraged. Incredible in size with three pairs of wings, the primary pair spanning just over thirty feet, and a split tail.

Skyborn Powers

Tempestarius

(Wind Manipulation)

  • Early stages: She can generate small gusts of wind, however, her control is somewhat limited and she struggles to maintain perfect control over the air's movements.

  • Mid-Tier: She can generate larger windstorms and tornados and manipulate them with greater control or use a strong jet of air to propel herself at high speeds.

  • Mastery: She can generate massive tornadoes and hurricanes at will and cause devastating destruction, capable of overwhelming multiple opponents by lifting them and other objects into the air and throwing them at vast distances.

Purifying Bubble
(Purification)

  • Early stages: She can purify some of the air around herself or a chosen target to prolong their safety from exposure to a harmful containment, but it isn't foolproof and she can't maintain it for very long.

  • Mid-Tier: She can completely purify the area around herself or a chosen target for either an extended period in a small range that protects a few people or for a shorter period in an area large enough to encapsulate many people.

  • Mastery: She can completely restore oxygen inside a person's body to resuscitate them, but it can't bring back those who are already dead, and create a large-scale environment of pure oxygen to protect others and herself from airborne contaminants such as poison or even illness while also enhancing their bodies into feeling rejuvenated and stronger for a quick recovery.

Indurated Firmament
(Atmospheric Control)

  • Early stages: She can condense a small portion of air into a near-solid object that can be used offensively in simple air-based attacks or defensively to deflect incoming danger. Condensing the air into a density of wood rather than anything reliably solid.

  • Mid-Tier: She can condense a larger portion of air into a solid structure to create defensive barriers over a wider area and blades of air as versatile as steel. As well as manipulate the air around an opponent to cause pain and incapacitate them.

  • Mastery: She can condense any air within sight to form near indestructible walls and blades sharp enough to cut through the toughest of defenses, the air around an opponent can now be used to essentially crush them to death.

Raqia Flux
(Vacuum)

  • Early stages: She can remove some of the air around an opponent's head to make it harder for them to breathe, but it requires immense concentration and the effect doesn't last long enough to knock the opponent out due to lack of oxygen.

  • Mid-Tier: She can maintain the effects of removing the air around an opponent's head long enough to knock them out and it can be utilized on multiple opponents at once.

  • Mastery: She can instantly erase an opponent's ability to breathe by taking the oxygen directly from their lungs and blood, although it can be recovered from if she loses concentration.

Cloud Step
(Aeroportation)

  • Early stages: She can make herself appear semi-translucent to avoid detection.

  • Mid-Tier: She can become completely translucent and pass through solid objects over short distances, but it is difficult to maintain, her state of matter can only be fully permeable for short periods.

  • Mastery: She can become one with the wind and sky, her body phases out of its solid state granting her the ability to pass through objects and reform herself at will to cross great distances completely undetected.

Malana, Empire of Himachal

Although not the capital of the Empire of Himachal, Malana is one of the highest-valued villages due to the quality of its exports. Most of which after trade with their neighbors at the foot of the mountain make their way to the capital, Kausani, where it is then resold at a much higher price. This has led their capital to become a thriving source of wealth and culture over many years. To make sure their wealth would be secure for future generations, Malana has been one of the country's best-kept secrets. Its location is only known by Emperor Dhruvan and his association of fiercely loyal merchants with their own personal guards. Only those on the council of Malana know their true place in the empire, but they choose to preserve their secluded life in the mountains, even if they recognize how they are being taken advantage of by the emperor. Malana itself need only provide enough goods in return for their protection and supplies necessary for survival, as when the cold months hit the mountain becomes a barren wasteland of ice and snow cutting off any hope of making it up or down the mountain. While the weather is unforgiving the people have learned to adapt to this lifestyle as it is the only one they have ever known. Many of the sturdy stone buildings are communal with the tallest building in the center being housed by the council members, including Pema as her father is a member. Surrounded by terraced farmland that hugs their nutrient-dense river, some sections of flat land are utilized for their herds of cattle and alpaca while others grow larger foliage such as tea leaves, cacao, and bamboo.
